http://news.yahoo...urch_abuse

The man, identified only as H., was allowed to stay in a vicarage while undergoing therapy — a decision in which then-Archbishop Joseph Ratzinger was involved, the statement said. It said officials believe it was known the therapy was related to suspected "sexual relations with boys."

I distinctly remember him claiming soon after becoming pope that sexual abuse by priests was basically a lie made up by the news media. And yet he was involved in making decisions in a case of a priest suspected of child molestation. Hypocrisy or just plain forgetfulness?

I'm betting on a flat lie.

You pretty much have to lie, if you are cat'lick.

Yeah, I'm going with 'lies' too. And cover ups.

Sorry, I missed this thread when posting News this morning.

Though, the link I provided basically says, "the pope knew", then farther down the story, the church says "the pope didn't know".

Quite confusing.

But, of course, we know that those god fearing bible thumpers would NEVER lie. Now, don't we?

I'll drink to that. Or anything else for that matter.

I remember him saying he knew and I remember reading an article on the previous atheist site we had where it was discovered and admitted there were cover ups. Priests who molested children were moved/transferred rather than defrocked. To make it worse they not only covered up what they did and lied to parents who reported it they also sent the priests where they had access to children alone all over again. It was as if nothing had ever happened.

They finally did get caught and that's when it became public to draw out other victims who never got justice for being violated.

Well look at it from the perspective of a Catholic.

You can only get to Heven if you are redeemed by Jesus Christ through forgiveness through your priest.

This necessitates the constant sinning through life, so you can approach your priest, ask for forgiveness and thus remind baby Jesus that you need redemption.

As a priest you have little money to gamble (its all kicked up to the boss to furnish his state-palace), many of the other sins are ruled out also through age and circumstance.

Hence, the only thing that remains for them to secure their shares in sin is the abuse of children.

One can't live without sinning according to Catholicism (and Christianity in general). After all, we all inherit original sin at birth, and every impure thought is a sin. I'm sure I sin several times a minute.

This is only true, if you accept the silly definition of 'sin' that these religious bigots define.

If, on the other hand, you take out all the supernatural woo from the definition of sin? What does it leave?

I bet that if you did that? You have, at most, sinned once or maybe twice in your entire life. Maybe none!

One of the things I love to say to religitards, is "I have not sinned."

This really gets their panties in a wad-- for I insist they define 'sin' in a non-supernatural way.

They never do-- thus?

I have not sinned.

Neither has anyone else, as far as I can tell.

This is not to say we are all perfect 'angels'-- far from it.

But mistakes, errors or plain old fuck-ups? Those are a normal part of being human-- can't be helped, sometimes.

But they're not sin--

Bob, you don't think I really believe that nonsense, do you? I meant according to Catholicism and Christianity, of course, not that they mean shit to a tree as far as I'm concerned. Hmmm, actually, the shit might nourish the tree. Bad analogy.

Oh, I never thought for a minute you did...

... I just took it as an opportunity to transition into my 'take' on the whole silly sin thing.

I wonder what the record is for most simultaneous sins is....

Im picturing a guy eating shell fish with side of cloven hoof, while reading about astronomy, wearing a mixed fibre tshirt, saying 'Jesus Christ!', sodomising a guy, betting on something all while thinking of his nextdoor neighbours wife and cattle.

All on the Sabbath. He was paid to sodomize the guy, so it was work.

Smile
