I'm Lagging, are you?
Skeeve
Their reply:

Hello Deryl,

Yes, we are aware of it - our admin is working on this database server. It will be alright soon.

Thank you!

Kind Regards
Sam, Support
Servage Hosting

Seems abit terse compared to other replies I've gotten from them. :sighw:

*edit*

Maybe I'm just seeing it as curt because this is the 3rd time they've "fixed" it.

Not terribly encouraging ,is it? The guy is probably deluged with complaints, which might explain the terseness. Maybe Servage needs more than "one solution".

Sometimes it works fairly well, and others it's a dead stop. Right now, it's working fairly well...the lag seems minimal.

I don't want to jinx it, but I think it's back to normal now.

Yes, it's working well for me too now. Uh-oh, I shouldn't have said anything.

Couldn't get on this afternoon, but now it seems smooth.

Seems to fluxuate. Some times I get on fine, others it goes so slow I just click off and piss around on Youtube for a bit (which is a very dangerous thing!).

I thought at first it was my PC as I contracted a virus a couple of months back, which has slowed certain things down. I'm kinda glad to hear there's nothing wrong my end, but after the past couple of Atheist sites it is a little concerning. Does someone here have ALL our email addresses incase anything goes wrong? Skeeve? Admins?

I'd say that ship has sailed with the demise of atheists.com. There is no way to tell that I know of.

You're welcome ;beers;

It seemed fast for the past 12 hours or so, but it's lagging rather badly again.

Seems okay this morning...so far.

Not too bad today, I wonder if their isn't some sort of maintenance schedule Savage Hosting holds to.

catman
Right now, it's virtually unusable. I waited for over a minute three times on another thread, only to get nothing.

EDIT: Now the lag is only five or ten seconds. There is no predicting how it will be from minute to minute.

A few minutes ago, I got a full-on network timeout.

Then the "cannot connect to MySQL server" message.

Now, it has anything from none to 10 seconds delay.

Weird.

Oh, and Topix seems to have crashed on my computer...

Okay, Atheiststoday.com is now lagging roughly a minute per page request.

It's being gay again. And not the fun type of gay with all the musical theatre and lube.

Trace complete.

This is why I try to stay away from data centers.
The hops do show that the problem is with the data center as the host says. They are not to terribly delayed, however, the way data centers operate they have to hop through several routers in the same building and they all add up.

I hope this clears up the "Why is it lagging?" questions :)

That's right, I said it...

If I knew how to read it, I'm sure it would. Is all that just for one contact, and are the times in milliseconds? Sorry about my analog mind.

Thanks, CD, I'm as baffled as Ol' Man Cat, but I get your drift. Today (Aug 28), so far, so good. Neil

I think the point that CD is making is that, for the packet of information he was tracing, it had to go through all 22 places on the document he posted so the lag time is all the milliseconds added together. Maybe.
